Washing ghee is a traditional method used to remove impurities, make it creamier and smoother and enhance its texture and flavor. Here’s how you can do it and also use it to remove wrinkles and fine lines.

Ingredients and Materials

  • Ghee (clarified butter)
  • Cold water
  • Large bowl
  • Whisk or hand mixer
  • Clean cheesecloth or muslin cloth


  1. Melt the Ghee: Start by melting the ghee in a saucepan over low heat until it becomes liquid.
  2. Transfer to a Bowl: Pour the melted ghee into a large bowl.
  3. Add Cold Water: Add an equal amount of cold water to the melted ghee. For instance, if you have one cup of ghee, add one cup of cold water.
  4. Whisk: Using a whisk or hand mixer, whisk the ghee and water mixture vigorously for about 5-10 minutes. The water will help separate any impurities from the ghee.
  5. Drain the Water: Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes. The impurities will settle in the water. Carefully pour off the water, leaving the ghee in the bowl.
  6. Repeat: Repeat steps 3 to 5 several times (usually 3-5 times) until the water remains clear after whisking. This indicates that most of the impurities have been removed.
  7. Strain the Ghee: Once the water remains clear, strain the ghee through a clean cheesecloth or muslin cloth to remove any remaining particles.
  8. Store: Transfer the washed ghee to a clean, dry jar and store it in a cool, dark place.

This is how you must use ghee to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles

  1. Ghee Night Cream: Apply ghee to your face before bed and leave it on overnight for deep moisturization and wrinkle reduction.
  2. Ghee and Honey Mask: Mix equal parts ghee and honey, apply for 20 minutes, then rinse for a hydrated and tightened skin.
  3. Ghee and Turmeric Mask: Combine ghee with turmeric, apply for 15 minutes, and wash off to reduce inflammation and wrinkles.
  4. Ghee and Aloe Vera Gel: Blend ghee with aloe vera gel, apply for 30 minutes, then rinse to soothe and hydrate the skin.
  5. Ghee and Almond Oil: Mix ghee with almond oil, massage into your face, leave for 20 minutes, then rinse for nourished, wrinkle-free skin.
